Description: |
| This is the very first patent for a tilting-arbor table saw—at least, it is the very first patent where the arbor-tilting mechanism is claimed. Patent 37,816 is another early tilting-arbor saw. Patent 210,100 introduces trunnions rather than a physical hinge-pin in the tilting mechanism, which was the key innovation required to make a tilting-arbor design wholly practical. The inventor mentions both "mills driven by steam and water power, for heavy work" and "portable machines working by a treadle" as possible applications of his invention. We have found no evidence that this saw was ever manufactured. |
