According to Ken Cope's "American Wrench Makers 1830-1930," this is the second of two Hoffman patents used for a pipe and nut wrench manufactured by Hoffman. The earlier patent is dated Aug. 12, 1913 (pat. no. 1,070,343). Cope's book cites a 1913 "Scientific American" listing as documentation.
