| Description: | | Another of the classic patent gages. An extremely elegant design,
in which an H-shaped bar holds two independent heads. This simple
design allows a single compact gage to hold two distinct
	 settings.
This gage was produced for many years, in several variants. The
earliest versions used a plain rosewood or boxwood bar, which
caused wear problems because the locking screws bit into the
wooden bar. Later models added an inlaid brass strip to provide a
more solid wearing point for the screw. Also late in production,
these were offered with a brass sliding bar on one side, allowing
it to be used for marking mortises. | |
