| Description: | | The adjustment is made by loosening the thumb screw on the pivot bolt, which passes through a tapered pivot block with toothed edges that mesh with teeth in a serrated slot in one of the jaws. According to Ken Cope's "American Wrench Makers 1830-1930," Evarts produced this tongs at New Haven.
Evarts distinguishes his patent from J.R. Brown's Aug. 2, 1859 pipe tongs patent (no. 24,927). | |
