| Description: | | This wrench is an improvement on Wilcox's Sept. 3, 1861 patent (no. 33,223). The bottom adjusting screw is modified, and the spring rides on a fixed rod and bears on a bolster which pushes the adjustable jaw against the work piece.
A known example has the patent information hand stamped. It looks very similar to an example marked with Wilcox's Sept. 12, 1871 patent (no. 118,891).
Ken Cope's "American Wrench Makers 1830-1930" attributes the wrench to J.A. Wilcox of Rocky Hill, CT based on the assignment. A known example is marked as "Colt." | |
