Stan Schulz Vintage Machinery entry for Batavia Wheel Co.
|
Description: |
The frame clamps to a wagon or buggy wheel. These narrow wooden wheels had bolts to hold the iron tires on to the wheel fellies. The bolt heads were flat on the outside, flush with the wheel surface. The lever-cam pushes down on the plunger to hold a bolt-head so the nut could be tightened or loosened.
An ad in the March 1891 issue of The Wood-Worker is from the Batavia Wheel Co., and shows a bar clamp with this patented clamping mechanism. The ad can be viewed by following the link to the Vintage Machinery entry for Batavia Wheel Co., and clicking on the "Images" tab. |
