| The hook jaw is pivotally connected to its handle. The gripping face on the second handle is reversible, with teeth on both sides. A spur on the second handle engages with a notch in the hook jaw to increase the gripping pressure of the tool. A known example matching this patent is marked only with the patent date.
Erie Mfg. & Supply adjustable jaw tongs with this patent date actually reflect Johnson's improved patent no. 540,790.
