Description: |
Double sized socket for axle nuts, located in the center of a long spring strip with "s" hooks at both ends.
This wrench attaches an axle nut to its wheel for removal and replacement. This is an evolution and improvement on Wegner's October 9, 1888 patent (no. 390,731). The twists in the spring are to address problems of the springs rubbing and marring the finish on wheel spokes.
According to Ken Cope's "American Wrench Makers 1830-1930" this was marketed as the DAISY WAGON WRENCH by Fred A. Wegner & Co. of Chicago. An 1891 IRON AGE item places the company at Three Rivers, MI.
Canadian patent no. CA-32,581 and British patent GB-188914080 show this wrench along with Wegner's wedge-adjust version (patent no. 420,981). |
