Abstract:
It is the object of my invention to improve upon jaws of the above class in several important particulars, the first of which is to provide a jaw which will grip and hold an a5 article firmer than those now in use; second, to construct said jaw in a way that the entire load will not come entirely against the clamping-screw, but may be deflected against the ways in which the jaw is mounted; third, to so arrange the device that the adjusting-screw will not set up against the jaw and project therefrom, but will be arranged to one side below the plane of the jaw and at an angle thereto other than a right angle to the line of movement of the jaw, thus making the article more compact and requiring less space upon the table, all of which are very important features.
Claim:
In a device of the class described, the combination with a portable base having means of attachment to a table, of a jaw mounted therein and containing diagonal teeth on its under side, a bore arranged diagonally with reference to the line of movement of jaw through the base, an adjusting-screw mounted in said bore in engagement with the teeth of the jaw for operating the latter, said screw extending through the base with exposed engaging heads on either end. |
