Description:

An undated (but circa 1978) Powermatic catalog says this in their description of the Model 180 18-inch planer: "In order to comply with user and Federal Government demands for Planer noise reduction, Powermatic Engineering has done it again! Determined to avoid the complications of sharpening and replacing knives in spiral time cutterheads, this fantastic NEW single surface planer still utilizes the straight knife slot, maintaining simple knife installational and sharpening through use of the regular grinding and jointing attachment. Major noise reduction has resulted from this new stagger mount (patents) blade arrangement, and the addition of curtains of acoustical material at entrance and exit areas serve to contain sounds generated within the machine, again reducing the noise level pressure."
