Description: |
When the auxiliary lever handle is released, the "fixed" jaw is free to move against the pressure of a compression spring in the handle. This construction would allow for "ratchet" action. "William Robert Lake .. Southampton-buildings, London" was a British patent agent.
See the DATAMP entry for U.S. patent 178,162 for drawings.
Note: Early British patents (pre 1916) were numbered by the year and started at patent #1 at the start of each year in January. The patent # used in DATAMP represents the year of registration and the patent # (with "leading zeros" interposed to make the number total nine digits). This patent is #2,550 of the year 1876. |
