| Description: | | This patent, which was restored after the 1836 fire at the Patent Office, is a noteworthy early woodworking machine. Patentee McClintic was a Windsor chair-maker who was active 1807 to at least 1827. This patent was licensed to Nathan West of Washington for manufacture, and also to the US Navy, who paid McClintic $700 for the rights. It is not known who actually supplied the Navy with mortising machines, or perhaps the Navy built their own machines. | |
