| Description: | | The closing jaws are on the side of the handles, rather than the traditional "pliers" type form (as in Blair's March 17, 1874 patent no. 148,656). The jaws could have guide grooves of different sizes to match different sizes of rings. The wire "ring" with tapered ends was an important item of commerce. An 1881 "History of Crawford County" noted Blair's company was producing 60,000 hog rings per day. The ring (open & closed) is shown in a May, 1891 IRON AGE ad for BLAIR'S Hog and Pig Ringers and Rings which identifies Blair as the manufacturer. | |
