| Description: | | Abstract:
A cambered surface on a roll c is produced by tilting a grinding-wheel y by means of an inclined straight-edged bar and link motion about a shaft e as the wheel is fed axially. The grinding-wheel is mounted on a head x slidable in a base d pivoted on the shaft e to a slide b traversing a bed a. On the slide b are mounted cheek plates m carrying levers j, k connected by a lever i adjustably carrying at its lower end a bowl h contacting with the underside of an adjustable straight-edged inclined bar f mounted on the bed a. The lever i has a vertically grooved extension p straddling a roller g on an arm r pivoted to the cheek plates. The arm carries adjustable stops t, u coacting with the base d. An extension v of the lever indicates the position of the slide b. For parallel grinding both stops are withdrawn, and for concave and convex grinding respectively the stops a and t are set to contact with the bed d when the slide b is in mid-position. Movement of the slide to either side of the mid-position causes an arcuate movement of the extension p and the stop carrying arm r. | |
