Claim:

The combination with the working cylinder and piston, of an explosion-chamber, a port connecting the cylinder and chamber, a valve for said port, a cushioning-chamber above the valve, a head on the valve-stem located in the cushioning-chamber and having a lower face exposed to the explosion-chamber, whereby the explosions lift the valve.
