Description:
The patent describes the "sealing ribbon" and its application to threaded pipe joints for sealing and easy dis-assembly. The specifications describe in some detail the formation of the "ribbon" from a "coherent unsintered polytetrafluoroethylene film." (i.e. P.T.F.E. better known by trade name TEFLON).

The patent number appears on early rolls of the film produced by a Johnson & Johnson subsidiary, or by licensees. In 1977, the patent's claims were found invalid by reason of "obviousness," as DuPont sales representatives had suggested this as possible use for their product prior to the patent application.
