Description: |
Albert Field was a dental technician. He began his working life with an apprenticeship as a toolmaker and then went to trade school to become a dental technician. After graduating from a school in Chicago he worked in a dental lab in Dayton, eventually buying the business after the death of the original owner. By this time he was developing new products for dental labs and renamed his business to the Field Dental Specialty Mfg. Co. An early product was a "cartridge roll", a sort of small sanding drum that uses a flexible abrasive and a yielding drum, suitable for the abrasive finishing of false teeth (patent 2,290,098). National Cash Register placed an order for 10,000 cartridge rolls for finishing metal molds, and this led to the establishment of a spin-off business, the Field Abrasive Mfg. Co. |
