Description: |
| A pair of bevel gears on a shaft, with the bevels facing toward one another and a hub in between them, is difficult to manufacture in a unitary operation because the hub will be cut into by the tooth-forming operations unless the hub is of substantially smaller diameter than the minor diameter of the bevel gears, and that limitation is objectionable because the resulting part will be weaker than it would otherwise be. The invention, then, is to weld the bevel gears onto a hub after the gear teeth are cut; in this way the outer diameter of the hub is not constrained by the tooth-cutting operation. |
