Description: |
| "Nested" screwdrivers; the head of the smallest size has two sets of threads corresponding to interior threads in the middle and largest sizes.
The patent date appears on an example of an E. EDELMANN "3-in-1" nested screwdriver although the internal construction of that screwdriver does not correspond to this patent's claims. The smallest size slides into the hollow handle of the middle size, which in turn fits into the largest size. The threaded cap fits threads in the middle and large sizes. The overall length is almost 5 3/4 inches.
In most EDELMANN nested 3-in-1 screwdrivers, the smallest size is threaded into the internal bore of the next largest size, and the two together slip into the largest, which has a threaded retaining cap. The overall length of those 3-in-1 screwdrivers is given as 3 3/4 inches. A similar structure appears in EDELMANN's 4-in-1 screwdriver and in the company's HAN-D hammer with screwdrivers nested in the handle [see patents D54,162 (U.S.), CA-216,934 (Canada) and GB-142,008 (Great Britain)]. |
