Description:
2nd patent number appearing on CRAFTSMAN ROBO-GRIP(R) self-adjusting pliers and MAC DJ9 QUICK-JAW pliers - along with 4,651,598. Contract manufacturer for CRAFTSMAN pliers not identified.

"Self-adjusting utility pliers are disclosed in pending U.S. patent application Ser. No. 654,405 filed Sept. 26, 1984, now U.S. Pat. No. 4,651,598; issued Mar. 24, 1987. The tool therein disclosed is intended for the same use and purpose as the afore described prior art pliers but has the clear advantage of single-handed adjustment. Further, the pliers are adapted to slideably close upon a work piece in response to manual closing action on the handles, and, in response to contact with the work piece, automatically lock against further sliding action and shift from the sliding to a pivoting mode whereby continued exertion of manual force on the handles causes increased gripping action on the work piece."

U.S. patents 2,714,198 and 3,793,914 included among list of relevant "prior art."
