Description:
"The principal object of my invention .. is to provide a wrench for straining bolts and stud bolts to predetermined and uniformly accurate tension." The mechanism is a form of adjustable friction clutch.

The patent was used in one style of Jo-Line torque wrenches, and was "improved" by a subsequent series of patents. (see also 2,310,759, 2743,678, 2,897,704 and 3,016,773) Jo Mfg. was acquired by K-D in 1979.
