"Vintage Machinery" entry for Jacobson Machine Mfg. Co.
Description:
"My invention has relation to improvements in vises for general use of mechanics; and it has for one object the construction of a vise the jaws of which may be arranged to extend above the clamping-screw in the ordinary manner or to project laterally from the screw, so that the jaws lie in a horizontal plane and in either position shall be revolvable about a supporting-pivot.

"A further purpose is to so arrange the parts that the tightening of the vise shall lock the vise against rotation on its supporting-pivot, and a final object is to so construct the various parts that they will cooperate accurately with a minimum of friction."

The November 1903 issue of "The Gas Engine" carried an advertisement for the "Jacobson Universal Friction Vise" from Jacobson Machine Mfg. Company. The illustration matches the patent drawing, and also shows the patent date.
