| Description: | | The tongs in this patent are the ACME CUBE PIPE TONGS as produced by the BAY STATE IRON WORKS, Erie, PA. The improvements listed in the specifications make sense in light of W.H. Campbell patent 130,278 which was produced as the early version of the ACME PIPE TONGS. Lovrien's U.S. patent 234,304 granted Nov. 9, 1880 corresponds. Lovrien identifies himself as "machinist" in the specifications. He was the founder of BAY STATE IRON WORKS; by 1880 ownership had passed to Noble, Hall & Co. | |
